In a way, Faun's birth was a tragic accident. A pregnant mother, dying due pregnancy complications. Unknown to the mother, though, the fetus had been long dead before the time to give birth game, but the mother's own latent magical energy had kept the worst symptoms away; had shielded the mother from getting too sick. Instead, the magic had coalesced to the fetus' body. As the magic got trapped doing it's job, the mother grew weaker.
Mother, who wasn't a trained mage; barely even knew about her magic; but desperation made her try. As she laid there dying; she made a wish with every drop of magic she could draw. A wish for her baby to survive.
But what was dead, couldn't just survive; what was dead, couldn't just be revived. Life for a life. Accidental necromancy; a mother's sacrifice and all that stored magic was able to give birth to something. Not quite human, not quite undead. Something more - or maybe something less.

Skills & Weaknesses
As mentioned previously, Faun has extensive training of offensive magic, but also of physical combat, infiltration and use of different weaponry. This of course doesn't mean he's perfect with them all, but if you give him a common weapon he will have some experience how to use them.
Faun's usual jobs require him to go undercover for various lengths of time. He's usually tasked a personal target, whom he's supposed to evaluate and terminate if it seems the person will be, or is a threat. In rare cases his target is a group. Since this is the nature of his missions, it's needed that Faun knows to use his charm and intelligence. Even honeypot missions aren't out of his skill set, even though Faun dislikes those the most.
However Fauns most trained skill has to be his magic; especially the offensive and destructive side of it. He wields hauntingly blue flames - temperamental side of fire magics; burning hotter than the normal flames but these flames will fight for the control; if the user gets distracted they may get burned by their own flames.
Faun also has mediocre skills in necromancy; these skills get enchanted whenever in his more monstrous form; not because he suddenly knows more - but because the power level itself increases and makes the spells easier to cast and control.
