ABADDON

SHEOL AND ABADDON ARE NEVER SATISFIED,
AND NEVER SATISFIED ARE THE EYES OF MAN.
Habakkuk 2:5

BASICS

AS WE KNOW THEM

NAME Abaddon ::  Zechariah de Foltergrube
||
Names to demons are very precious things; hidden and fiercely guarded, for if one knows it, demon can be summoned and captured, bound and beaten. Speaking aloud his true name banishes him back to the hell. So it's not a surprise Abaddon uses another name if he introduces himself to another.
However his true name might be found from old books or half-destroyed diaries; but he has dedicated years in destroying every mention there is of his name.

AGE ⋗  Lived around 2400 years, give or take.
||
Now, one must first know time moves different in the Hell and on Earth. For a 12 years in the Hell  is merely a year for the living.
Abaddon has spent most of his demon life in the Hell, only rarely visiting the living world. So, while Abaddon has lived trough around 2400 years, only around 200 years has passed since his mortal death. It's long life for a demon living in Hell, since most of them doesn't last to their first century.

GENDER⋗  Male
||
Abaddon is a male trough and trough. While most of the demons are genderfluid; being able to become either gender (or none) in a whim, Abaddon has never felt the need to change his gender.

SEXUALITY Pansexual
||
Abaddon doesn't really care is his sexual or romantical partner male, female or anything in-between. He doesn't really care about species' either; if it's humanoid, has a hole and doesn't annoy him to the Hell and back he won't care.

SPECIES⋗  Demon
||
There is multiple ways one could become demon, and it all has something to do with souls. Soul starts as a pure thing; bright and pulsing; so horribly delicious for demons. Every action a human takes during it's lifetime affect the soul; and only those who fractures and taints it enough gets sent to hell for their punishment. Only some of those tormented souls are given a chance to become demon. One can also be sent to Hell, even if they never do anything bad, but make a deal with a demon, for once the deal is finished your soul will be surrendered to the demon the deal was done with; and only those souls are the ones demons can do what ever they want to, and it in itself might be a fate worse than Hell.  More souls the demon devours, the stronger it grows. The purer the soul is, more power it gives.

|| Since demons are creatures of immense evil and taint, they cannot step on a holy ground without being invited in. That means most of the churches are safe, as well as graveyards. Holy water and silver burns their skin, as does crosses. Lamb blood (Christ the lamb of God) is almost like a poison to demons; it hurts and weakens them.

To kill a demon permanently, there is not a lot's of ways for a human to do it. A demon can kill another demon by decapitating them; as can angel, however it's harder for a human to kill a stronger demon (lower level demon can be killed almost at same way you would kill another human).
You would need to trap the demon; make it stay still. Burn sage to disorientate the demon; make it drink the blood of a lamb and only then you can destroy it's heart or remove it's head from the shoulders.

|| Abaddon is fairly strong demon. When walking among humans he can make himself to look and feel like a normal human (Illusion), however the illusion can fall if he's attacked or if someone throws salt at him (salt doesn't otherwise hurt demons, it just removes the illusions). Abaddon prefers to take a form of older gentleman; with grey, short hair and kind brown eyes. As other demons he's unnaturally strong and fast with better senses and ability to heal wounds faster than humans would.

He can also influence unguarded minds. He cannot make a man of peace to wage a war, but he can make absent-minded person to forget small things, he can make a tired person to decide to fall asleep; and so on. Curiously this ability is a lot stronger versus other demons.

APPEARANCE

ALWAYS CHANGING

Demons comes in almost every shape and form, however it's been observed more humanoid the demon looks the stronger it is. It seems to be true with Abaddon as well.
He is tall creature; towering humans in his 220 cm (7'2 ft) form. He's fairly muscular; but without affecting his agility. Wide shoulders and narrow hips; long legs ending to mean looking  claws.
From his shoulders starts two tail-like appendages, a but longer than what Abaddon's tall. Abaddon can control them as easily as he would control his own hand; bit those are more powerful and agile; ending in a mean blades; perfect for impaling something.
Abaddon's also basically missing an outer join in his fingers; where his fingers are basically overgrown claws, sharp and almost metal-like in their durability. He cannot make a proper fist with them.

Abaddon's skin is quite smooth, if ignoring the ridges and bone growths.  Darker the skin is, more leather-like it becomes with less sensitivity; very resistant to different elements; be it molten rock under his feet, or shards of glass; it won't hurt him. Lighter the skin is, softer it becomes, even if it's never as soft as human's skin is.

Abaddon has sharp jawline and high cheekbones. His ears have shorter elven-shape in them; with an earrings in both of them. Dark, dark mane of hair, only on his left side. Right side shaved short. Missing a horn from that side; it never grows back; shame which he carries forever.
Three small-ish eyes; with black sclera and iris; only slit, orange pupil staring at you. Heavy brows and wide mouth filled with sharp teeth. Thin, black lips; right side always in a forced grin; damaged skin and scarring always visible. Goatee made of the same bone as his horn.

Blood as black as ink; tongue long(ish) and black.

When playing a human Abaddon usually takes a form of an older gentleman; average height of 178 cm;  walking with a cane, but dressed in expensive suits. Kind, dark brown eyes with wrinkles around them and his mouth; turned into carefree smile. Short grey hair; already thinning.
He lures you in with his harmless appearance and kind words. Offering his help for only a little payment  ~

PERSONALITY

BELIEVABLE LIE

Arrogant & Cruel

As many other demons; Abaddon's cruel creature of only a few moral codes; if any. He has shed most of his humanity a long time ago; if not for any other reason than to survive in the fiery pit filled with even meaner creatures. He doesn't really feel anything if he had to torture some poor sod; his heart doesn't bleed over newly orphaned children or dying saints.
This doesn't mean Abaddon gets pleasure out of it. He doesn't mind hurting others, but he's not sadist either.  At best case scenario he gets some amusement out of it; but after seeing such a things for such a  long time it tends to become a bore.

Time has made Abaddon arrogant as well. He clawed his way to the top, and haven't been challenged in a while. Only a few higher demons and some archangels makes his heart shudder; his head bow, but Abaddon knows to avoid those well enough. He doesn't believe hunters as a threat; perhaps because he believes they cannot do anything to a creature of his level. Perhaps, he has spent too much time away from the human world.

Manipulative & Greedy

Abaddon wasn't particularly strong demon at early stages of his life, but he got strongest because of his sharp mind and silver tongue. He often talked himself out of the bad situations;  begged and sang empty promises. His mind has always been his strongest weapon, which he has learned to use to it's fullest. He comes out quite laid back but attentive; somewhat trustworthy; even kind on his good days. He keeps his sharp tongue on check if he needs or wants something. He can be charismatic and charming if he wants.  It helps him to get the contracts he wants; and afterwards there is no more gentle smiles and whispered promises to console you.

Abaddon is materialist. He gets pleasure owning expensive and rare things. Be it the soul of Roman Emperor Titus Flavius Vespasianus, or a Crown Jewel of the United Kingdom. He collects them all and hoards them worse than gold-sick dragon. In a way he's quite single minded when he wants something. He doesn't feel in peace before he satisfies his greed; and it always comes back. There is nothing he wouldn't do if push came to shove.  And that single mindness is what makes him dangerous.

Protective & Forgiving

Surprisingly Abaddon is quite good leader for those that chose to follow him. While he's strict and doesn't like people stepping on his toes, he's not unnecessarily cruel to them. He does not wish for a huge army under his command; he values more skills and power rather than a larger head count. And those he takes under his wing he protects them in his own way. Insult towards them are insults towards him; which he doesn't tolerate. He protects what is his; for a price that is their servitude.

Another surprising trait is his forgiveness. He deals with insults and betrayals as soon as he can; but prefers not to dwell in them. He punishes them as he sees fit, but doesn't hold the accident over their head in the future. He may not trust you; but he will not stay angry at you.  He won't hunt the wrongdoers to the edge of the world. To Abaddon; staying angry is exhausting and counterproductive. He would rather leave such a things in the past and move on.

He is actually quite hard to anger. It takes a lot to make his blood boil, but when it does it explodes. His anger is a grand thing; as he rages the water will burn and ground bleed red, with no rationality left.

Possessive & Unpatriotic

Those Abaddon considers his he wishes to keep them close and guarded. Considering the relationship is possessiveness manifests in different ways. From 'don't talk to them' to 'i forbid you going out alone'. He's known for being jealous; which can make him cruel to those he cares about. This doesn't come from insecurity; but from his deep, deep greed where he doesn't want to give others permission to touch; to interact with his things.

Where he has his people, his servants; he doesn't really care about others. Especially other demons. In the best case scenario he wouldn't meet most of them ever again. He doesn't care what they do or what happens to them. Even if they united for some common cause; he wouldn't wish to join them. In a way; it's because other demons are too much alike with him; and he cannot stand it. Their greed, envy and rage fuels his, and hence he tends to stay further away from them.

SPECIAL

THE LAST STAND

If things go south, there is little something to help Abaddon survive those situations. During the centuries, he has had to use this ability only handful of times and every time using it gets more dangerous to him.

When physically falling to critical condition, he can force is body to evolve to a higher stage for a limited time. This boosts his physical abilities greatly; strength, speed, stamina, healing and senses. His skin is harder to pierce, and most supernatural creatures can feel his presence from large distances. This alters his physical appearance slightly for the duration as well.

Killing Abaddon while he is using this ability is quite hard. He heals the founds he has gained/gains in mere seconds.

However this doesn't come without side-effects. As soon as this form is activated, his body starts breaking apart slowly; eating itself from the inside. When his body devours itself, it doesn't heal along with the other wounds, hence giving Abaddon a timeframe he can keep the ability up. More often he uses it, the faster his body eats itself next time.

If Abaddon keeps this form up for too long, he will eventually die.

After Abaddon drops this form, the devoured parts won't start healing in weeks, and when the healing finally kicks back in it's going to a while to heal fully. Healing these wounds also takes far more energy than the normal ones, so during this time Abaddon is weakened both physically and mentally. He wouldn't be able to to muster a simple illusion.

Hence, to Abaddon this form is a last stand. Only using it if he doesn't see any other way to survive the situation.

To this day, Abaddon has used this form only twice.

First time was when the challenged the self proclaimed prince of hell; Abaddon used this form to escape barely alive.

Second time was when a hunter got a drop on him.

EVERYTHING

AND NOTHING

He has naturally a deep, raspy voice, which he can smooth out if he keeps talking more often. Been inspired by Los & Panzerkampf

His body temperature runs high, normal being around ~43°C (~109°F). Cannot get sick; even his wounds doesn't get infected. He also heals abnormally quick when compared to normal human. Small cuts heals in seconds; stab wounds in days and bonebreaks in mere weeks. Regenerating new limbs however takes months at the best case scenario. Abaddon's (black) blood is also quite thick.

He is quite wealthy,  however thinks nobody can be too rich. There is a fine line between being cheap and living comfortably.

'' His Smile fair as spring, as towards him he draws you,

His tongue sharp and silvery as he implores you,
Your wishes he grants, as he swears to adore you. Gold, silver, jewels he lay riches before you

Dues need be repaid and he will come for you
All to reclaim, no smile to console you
He'll snare you in bonds, eyes glowing afire
To gore and torment you until the stars expire''
